The toxicity of chocolate in pets
Chocolate is directly toxic because it contains methylxanthines. Specifically, the methylxanthines that chocolate contains are theobromine and caffeine. Both caffeine and theobromine produce similar effects, with theobromine's effects lasting much longer than caffeine.
